The Summerlee Science Complex Transformation through Philanthropy
Each year, about 450 donors support the University's highest priority fund, a designation that allows the University to allocate support to where it is needed the most. An undertaking to indigenize the Summerlee Science Complex is a project being supported with these funds and is being led by faculty members Ryan Gregory and Melissa Perreault. Support was also received from the U of G’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Enhancement Fund.
At a ceremonial event recently, the Summerlee Science Complex atrium was renamed Waasamowin (Wah-sah-mow-in), which means ‘to be bathed in the light’ in Anishinaabemowin. A memorial garden is also planned as part of the project.
